Simone Perele was founded by Madame Simone Perele in 1948, with the aim of liberating women through lingerie. After completing a corsetry degree, she began taking orders for made to measure and going in to business for herself just after the war. At the time there was mainly corsetry, with little regard for respecting a woman’s body. She was the first one to bring women what we now know as ‘lingerie’. Simone’s vision was to understand and anticipate the needs of women at the time. Her desire to meet the needs of women through lingerie was what made her so successful so quickly. She created collections to serve women of all shapes and sizes. This inclusivity is still part of the brand’s DNA as it continues to be their mission to make women feel beautiful in every moment, and in every occasion.
Family run for over 75 years, Mathieu Grodner and Stephanie Perele are the third generation to head up the family business as President and Product Division Director, respectively. At the core of the company’s values is their respect for women and their bodies, which is an extension of their grandmother’s vision, as she said “A woman should not have to choose between being comfortable and feeling beautiful… She can have it all.” This is the sentiment that continues to guide the brand going forward.
The brand has also created the Simone Cares program that focuses on environmental responsibility and social responsibility. Their efforts include using more recycled fibres, working with small suppliers, and working with CARE, an international NGO in the implementation of a program that provides access to water and hygiene products to women living in Madagascar – which is where one of their factories is. As an employer of over 300 people in Madagascar, Mathieu Grodner says it was an intentional choice in an effort to give back to the local communities in which they have a formal footprint.
